ICDL, the International Computer Driving License, is the world’s leading program providing individuals with basic computer skills training and validation/certification testing.

  • Over 5 million people in 140+ countries are ICDL candidates
  • 15 million tests have been administered to date.
  • Digital skills necessary to succeed in today’s schools and workplaces are attained
  • ICDL demonstrates competence and provides confidence.

Here in the United States, ICDL is used by schools and academic institutions, corporations, Workforce Investment Boards, and government economic development programs to help prepare individuals for success in a world where proficient use of information and communication technology is critically important. The ICDL certification program focuses on a candidate’s knowledge of basic computer skills in seven key areas that are necessary for success in today's digital world:

  1. Basic Concepts of IT
  2. File Management
  3. Word Processing
  4. Spreadsheets
  5. Database
  6. Presentations
  7. Communication and Information

As a comprehensive certification program, it includes certification testing and administrative tools. Candidates who pass all seven module tests receive an ICDL Certification card, to be shown to prospective employers as an achievement of fundamental knowledge in all seven computer skill areas.

Materials on this site were developed to cover these areas in courses offered for professional development for Billerica teachers and staff members.
